Women in the Indian Armed Forces: A Historical Perspective and Future Responsibilities

Historically, the Indian armed forces have been dominated by male soldiers and officers. Female entries started much later after a lot of struggle on the women’s part to fight their way in. This evolution of the role of women in the Indian military has been marked by the demands for equal opportunity, debates around gender equality, etc. This research article analyses the main arguments for these issues in the context of the Indian armed forces. It observes, that female warriors, after demonstrating equal capabilities, will now have to shoulder equal responsibilities while in service, to fructify their demands of equal opportunities in military service.
