Dr Kainat Aziz

Dr. Kainat Aziz, a native of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir, is a researcher specialising in natural hazards, mountain hydrology, and disaster risk reduction. She earned her Ph.D. in Environment and Sustainable Development from the Central University of Gujarat, where her work advanced the understanding of landslide dynamics and risk in the fragile Himalayan terrain. Her research spans landslide hazard assessment, glacier mass balance, snowmelt hydrology, and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs). By combining field investigations, geotechnical testing, and remote sensing, she develops science-based approaches to hazard mitigation and water security in high-mountain regions. Dr. Aziz has collaborated with CSIR-CBRI Roorkee on sustainable slope stability solutions and is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at IIT Guwahati, focusing on Himalayan glaciers and hydrological systems. Her contributions have been disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and presented at recognised national and international forums. With extensive field experience across the Himalayas and strong interdisciplinary expertise, Dr. Aziz continues to advance research that links geoscience with climate resilience and disaster preparedness, aiming to support both policy and practice in vulnerable mountain communities.
